Blocked Drain?
Need a plumber you can count on 24/7?

Blocked drains are not only common plumbing problems, but they can also be the most inconvenient. They are usually caused by a buildup of everyday household waste like grease, hair and food residue.

Here’s a closer look at the types of drain blockages:

Blocked Kitchen Sink
Food scraps, grease and other foreign objects washed down the kitchen drain can cause blockages. Grease and oil shouldn’t be poured down the drain because they solidify, accumulating on the walls of the pipe, rather than flowing through it.

Blocked Shower Drain & Bathroom Sink
Hair is the number one cause of shower drain and bathroom sink blockages. It can clog on its own, but also when combined with soap scum.

Blocked Toilet
Flushing any items other than sewage and toilet paper will cause toilet blockages. Nappies and baby wipes are two of the biggest culprits here.

Sewer
Tree roots searching for moisture can find the smallest crack and enter sewer lines. Tree root intrusion can cause a complete blockage or cause other matter to catch in the roots and clog.

The DIY Solution: How to unblock a drain?

Step One:
The first line of attack, particularly for a kitchen sink blockage, is a simple solution using household products. Sprinkle ¼ cup baking soda into the drain.

Step Two:
After half an hour, pour in one cup of vinegar and then run hot water through to see if it clears. A chemical reaction should occur from the combination of baking soda and vinegar, which should help dissolve the blockage.

Step Three:
If you’re handy and have a clog that is visible by torchlight and close to the surface, for example, hair in the shower drain, you may be able to remove it yourself.

Make sure you have our number on hand in case you run into difficulty. And please remember, anything more extensive requires professional plumbing services.

What Toscano Plumbing does not recommend

Unblocking drains is not as simple as plunging or using chemical drain cleaners. In fact, at Toscano Plumbing we do not recommend these DIY drainage solutions.

Chemical cleaning products you buy off the shelves can adversely affect the environment and corrode pipes because of their caustic nature.

Why turn to Toscano Plumbing for blocked drain plumbing?

Specialised equipment allows us to dislodge and remove the clog causing your drain blockage. Sewer blockages can occur in the main line, or one of the secondary lines. To determine the location of the blockage, so that we can clear it most successfully, we may suggest the use of our CCTV camera and locator.

Once we confirm the location of the blockage, high-pressure water jetting is the first method Toscano Plumbing turn to for unblocking drains. Often, no further steps will need to be taken. However, should the clog prove more stubborn, we attach a cutting head to break down the clog so it can pass.

Thanks to the latest technology, drain cleaning is easier than ever, saving you time and money.

Toscano Plumbing are licensed sanitary plumbers

According to Australian Standards regulations, sewage pipe work may only be carried out by a licensed plumbing contractor. If you experience any of the following signs of a problem with your sewage pipes, call immediately, before any plumbing fixtures are used again.

  • Foul odours

  • Gurgling sounds from toilets
  • Slow-flowing drains
  • Surface disturbances in toilet water
